
Course Details
The course is jointly taught by 10 industrial experts who have substantial experience and expertise as contractors and consultants (e.g. Multiplex, Roberson, Keltbray, SRM, John F Hung, RDG, and EDF etc.) It provides a broad coverage of temporary works, including:
- Construction methods in the urban context – by Siu Mun Li;
- Establishing the site and opening up – by Jemma Quin;
- Vertical formwork – by Tim Lohmann;
- Horizontal formwork – by Ray Filip;
- Falsework, striking and backpropping – by Rachel Joshua;
- Scaffolding, edge protection, vertical access – by David Milward;
- Cranage, lifting and working platforms – by Craig Hook;
- Piling – by Matthew Parker;
- Cut, carve, refurb and demolish – by Davinder Singh;
- Modern methods of construction – by Andrew Dewdney.
The course is part of our full-time MSc programme for Construction Management. It is also available for external professional learners to take as a standalone CPD module.
The CPD learners will have full access of the module contents in the same way as the fulltime students. Swansea University will issue a CPD certificate to each external student at the end of the course.

Professional engineers who are interested and require training in temporary works.
Date
Start from first week in October.
Duration
It is delivered over a period of 10 weeks, with a 3-hour lecture/discussion class each week. All lectures will be live delivered with a video link, and they will all be recorded to allow offline access.
Assessment
CPD students do not get assessed/examined, but they need to participate into all course elements and demonstrate a full engagement by completing the online quiz tests.

Location
The course is delivered at Swansea University Bay Campus. For CPD students, the course can be taken remotely through online lectures.
